After watching the Sunrisers Hyderabad play during the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League, former South African bowler Dale Steyn has thrown out a pretty bold prediction about when we might finally see a team score more than 300 runs in an innings. This speculation comes hot on the heels of SRH’s massive score of 286 runs in their first match this season. Ishan Kishan really stole the show with his century, and other players like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, and Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with some quick runs against the Rajasthan Royals in that game.
Steyn made his prediction known on his official post on X, which was once called Twitter, and shared his thoughts that we could see the 300-run mark broken on April 17. He wrote, “Small prediction. April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.”
Small prediction.

April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL.
Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.
Looking ahead at the IPL schedule, SRH is set to face off against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The last time these teams met at that venue, MI came out on top, thanks to a brilliant century from Suryakumar Yadav that really got everyone talking. But when the two teams battled it out in Hyderabad, it turned into a high-scoring match, with SRH racking up 277 runs and MI responding with a strong 246 in their innings.
Both teams are definitely going to want to swing hard at the ball, especially with the favorable batting conditions in Mumbai. It’ll be interesting to see if Steyn’s prediction holds true. SRH kicked off their season with a solid win against RR, putting them ahead by 44 runs. On the flip side, MI faced a loss in their opener against Chennai Super Kings by four wickets.
Next on the agenda, the Pat Cummins-led SRH will come back to play at home against Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow Super Giants on March 27, which could very well be another high-scoring affair. Meanwhile, MI will need to regroup and get their game face on as they prepare for their next match, which will be another away game against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans on March 29. Fans will certainly be on the edge of their seats for these upcoming clashes!
