Iqbal Abdulla, who won the U-19 World Cup with India and played in the IPL, is now doing a new role in cricket outside the field. At 35, he’s scouting talent for Delhi Capitals (DC) where he will be finding young cricket stars for the team.
From 2008 to 2017, Abdulla played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. As a left arm spinner with an aggressive approach, he took 40 wickets in 49 IPL games.
After retiring from international cricket in 2023, Iqbal Abdulla spent time watching the game as a fan, though he still plays in the Legends League Cricket and local Mumbai matches. Delhi Capitals brought him in as a talent scout. He told Mid-day that Vijay Bharadwaj and head coach Hemang Badani contacted him.
Abdulla said that Vijay Bharadwaj asked him if he’d be interested in joining just before the last IPL season. Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao were there too. He is currently playing in the Legends League Cricket and some other matches in Mumbai. The DC staff probably saw him play and thought since he’s young and has IPL experience, he would be a good talent scout for the franchise.

DC started well in the 2025 IPL, winning their first four matches. A dip in form later kept them out of the playoffs.
There are rumors on social media that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is planning some big changes before the 2026 IPL. After a poor 2025 season, the team might make some trades, possibly including Rachin Ravindra who scored only 191 runs in 8 games.
Reports say that CSK might trade him for Donovan Ferreira from Delhi Capitals. Trades weren’t always common in the IPL but since MI acquired Hardik Pandya from GT, the trade rumors haven’t stopped.
