Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2025 campaign ended earlier than projected on Monday when their crucial game against Delhi Capitals was washed out by rain. Just three wins out of 11 games, and SRH’s chances of making the playoffs are gone. We had a frustrating season with a lot of highs and lows, according to Daniel Vettori-the coach-who spoke to the media after the game. He went on to point out that the playing conditions there at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium caused a lot of their problems.
Vettori acknowledged that his team could not play the attacking approach they did in the previous year. I never said after every match that we were playing aggressively. We had to work out the conditions, which were nothing like we expected this year. Last year, there were plenty of high scoring games here. But this year, pitches have been different. It’s not easy for the batsmen. We are trying to study the game and work out what to do from situation to situation. Our players want to be aggressive, but this season was all about adapting to what was necessary for the day,” he added.
Hyderabad saw the hosting of six matches this season, and only four innings had teams scoring at 200 runs. This is a major change from IPL 2024, where seven out of 12 innings did. Vettori expounded that some pitches were capable of big scores but then added that most were on the side of fast bowlers, especially at the beginning of the innings. Only two wickets gave more than 250; the rest of the four were in favor of fast bowlers. The new ball was a treat to bowl, tough to hit, and the best bowlers in the league exploited those conditions,” he stated.
He reflected on how the season has been disappointing: “We came in with high hopes, but our performances haven’t been consistent enough. I’ve mentioned this before—putting together full performances has been a challenge. Today seemed like it could have been our chance, but it’s frustrating not to finish it out; that’s just how cricket goes.”

The rain-affected match against DC seemed to finally have SRH on track for a strong showing. Led well by Captain Pat Cummins, who took 3/19, DC was in trouble at 29 for 5. But in the rally from Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma, the rain came with the first innings done, and the match was called off. Points being shared had DC at fifth with 13 points, while SRH remained at eighth with just seven from 11.
