Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, is really pushing for more professionalism after his team lost to the Gujarat Titans on Saturday, March 29. It was a tough game, and the team ended up missing the mark by 36 runs in their second match of the tournament, which put them near the bottom of the league table.
During the game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Mumbai Indians did not shine in the field. They gave away some critical moments, like dropping a key catch from Jos Buttler, and they let a few easy chances slip past the boundary. There were also some silly overthrows that only added to their woes. Pandya wasn’t pleased at all with how things went and pointed out some of the mistakes his team made during the post-match chat. We were not professional in the field, we made basic errors and that cost us 20-25 runs, and in a T20 game, that is quite a lot, he mentioned, making it clear that they needed to step up their game.
When asked about the opening pair, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who haven’t really made an impact yet in this tournament, Hardik emphasized that it’s not just on them, but all the batters need to start taking charge of their performances. He said, Right now, we all need to take responsibility. It’s still early in the season. The batters have to come through, and I hope they do soon.
Pandya himself had a strange day at the crease, only managing to score 11 runs off 17 balls when the team really needed to accelerate their run rate in the second innings. The only player who really stood out for the team was Suryakumar Yadav, who played a good knock, scoring 48 runs off just 28 balls. Unfortunately, he got out while trying to hit a six, which is a tough situation when runs aren’t flowing easily from the other end.
With two losses under their belt now, the Mumbai Indians are off to a rough start this season. After taking a beating from the Chennai Super Kings in their first match, this loss to the Gujarat Titans was another disappointing outing. Coming up next, they’re set to face Ajinkya Rahane’s Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday, which will be their first home game of the season. They’re hoping to turn things around and get a win this time.
