The ICC released the weekly rankings on Wednesday, July 30 and the Manchester Test had an impact on the positions of both England and India players.
Several players are being rewarded for their recent batting, Rishabh Pant, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja all moved up in the rankings. Root remains the top Test batsman after his 38th Test century. Pant who batted with a toe fracture in Manchester moved up to 7th after a fifty. Pant’s resilience is impressive. He got a toe fracture on Day 1 of the 4th Test and still batted for his team. His fifty helped him move up in the rankings. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s poor show dropped him three places to 8th. Pant is now the highest ranked Indian in Test rankings. Three Indians are in top 10: Pant (7th), Jaiswal (8th) and Shubman Gill (9th).
In a surprise, Abhishek Sharma is now the top T20I player despite India not having played any T20I in recent times. Travis Head dropped a place and that helped Sharma to move up. Head didn’t play the T20Is against West Indies and that’s why he dropped. Sharma is now the third Indian to be ranked number one in T20Is along with Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.

Ravindra Jadeja who played a match saving innings with a century has moved up five places to 29th and has surpassed KL Rahul who is 36th. There is no change in the bowling rankings but Ben Stokes has reduced the gap between him and Jadeja in the all-rounder rankings. Stokes moved up three places to 3rd and is behind only Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja has 422 rating points and Stokes has 301.
Washington Sundar had a good game with Jadeja, scored his first Test hundred at Old Trafford and also contributed with a few wickets for the team. He has been rewarded with an eight place jump in the all-rounder rankings and is now joint 13th.
