India’s tour of Bangladesh, scheduled for August, is likely to be postponed indefinitely. A Cricbuzz report says the series is off until a formal statement. The series was to have three ODIs and three T20Is from August 17 to 31.
The report says the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to go ahead with the tour due to strained political relations between the two countries. The change of government in Sheikh Hasina has triggered one of the biggest diplomatic stand-offs in the region.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stopped the sale of media rights for the tour which was to happen on July 7 and July 10 through technical and financial bidding. The BCB was to sell the media rights for two years from July 2025 to June 2027. Now they will sell the rights for the three match T20I home series against Pakistan from July 17 to 25 separately and then work on other matches. Indian broadcasters were told the series won’t happen and an Invitation To Tender (ITT) hasn’t been made available.
They told us there is no India series. After saying there was a tender, they didn’t give the ITT. They are selling only for the Pakistan series for now, an Indian broadcaster said in the report.

The BCB hopes to reschedule the postponed series but a statement from the BCCI will come next week.
“We will keep going and take time to look at the market. There is no reason to rush. We can give different contracts. The date for the India series hasn’t been set yet. They (the BCCI) said it’s hard for them to come in August. This is part of FTP, the report said, quoting a BCB official.
In cricket terms this means Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t return to the field as soon as expected since they only play ODIs now. But India and Bangladesh will still play each other in September during the Asia Cup which is expected to happen.
