Mitchell Marsh, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants, has made his thoughts clear before their big match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He knows that SRH is known for being one of the most exciting batting teams in IPL 2025, but Marsh insists that LSG has its own game plan and aims to score big runs too. Talking about how T20 cricket has changed, he mentioned that putting up a score of 230 is becoming the standard expectation in most IPL games played in India. Teams today really have to get used to the thrill of scoring high if they want to stay in the game.
In their recent match, LSG faced a tight one-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals, and now they’re gearing up for an even tougher challenge. SRH just came off a phenomenal performance where they set a record with a staggering first-innings total of 286 against Rajasthan Royals and won by 44 runs. Still, during the press conference before their upcoming match, Marsh made it clear that no matter how powerful SRH’s batting lineup is, LSG is going to stick to their own approach instead of getting daunted by the other team’s strength.
Marsh shared, Yeah, they’ve been a great team to watch. The way they played last season and even in their first game this season shows how explosive they can be. We have to remain focused on our game and play according to our strengths. We know they’ll come at us full throttle. He added that very few T20 teams play slowly; instead, they usually come out swinging right from the start, which puts pressure on the bowlers. We’re aware that we’ll face pressure during the game tomorrow night. Embracing that pressure is key in this tournament.”
He further emphasized, The most vital thing for us is to leverage our strengths and stick to our game. Sure, Sunrisers have been able to apply pressure on many teams, but that could apply to any team nowadays. A score of 230 has become the new normal here, and while we respect that, our main goal is to concentrate on how we play and hopefully give them a run for their money.
Marsh had quite a debut season with LSG, scoring a commendable 72 runs against Delhi Capitals, alongside Nicholas Pooran, who hit a fiery 75 runs. But for LSG to really stand a chance against SRH, they need their captain, Rishabh Pant, to step up after he unfortunately went out for a duck in the last game.
One major worry for LSG ahead of this match is their bowling lineup, which has been hampered by injuries. With SRH featuring heavy-hitters like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan—who just scored a century in their last game—Lucknow’s bowlers face the tough task of trying to keep the runs down.
As IPL 2025 moves along, it’s clear that matches are getting higher and higher in scores, so LSG has to quickly adapt if they want to keep pace with the rest of the teams. This new era of T20 cricket is all about being ready for anything and Marsh acknowledges that they’ve got to be on their toes to tackle this runaway scoring trend.
