Sanju Samson might be leaving Rajasthan Royals because they might be thinking of making Riyan Parag captain. Reports were out before that Samson was thinking of going to another team. Cricbuzz says Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s good performance as openers has pushed Samson to the No. 3 spot which he doesn’t want. On his YouTube channel, Badrinath said this could be the reason why Samson might leave the team where he has played for 10 years.
If Samson joins CSK, he can take MS Dhoni’s place. Samson can bat at top 3 or 4. He’s not suitable for 5 or 6 because CSK already has strong players there. Mhatre, Gaikwad and Brevis are set, Badrinath said.
Badrinath also wondered where Samson would play if he moves to CSK. He said Samson would be good for Dhoni’s role but batting lower down might not be good for him.
Currently CSK’s top and middle order has Ayush Mhatre, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube so it’s not clear where Samson would fit in.
I don’t know if CSK would do what MI did to get Hardik Pandya from GT. Even if Sanju Samson joins we don’t know if CSK can find a spot for him, he added.
Earlier Kris Srikkanth, former India opener and selector said Rajasthan Royals shouldn’t let Sanju Samson go before 2026 IPL.
Sanju Samson missed some IPL 2025 games due to side strain. At the start of the tournament he was only an impact player because of his injury and Riyan Parag was the captain. Later Samson’s side strain made him miss more games and 14 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi played and scored the fastest century by an Indian in the tournament.

Kris Srikkanth thinks if Royals let Samson go it will hurt their team balance which is not good for them.There might be issues between him and Rahul Dravid but I don’t know. From team’s point of view they have paid him and kept him. The team is built around him. If they let him go what happens to the team? They haven’t won the IPL since 2008, Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
They made it to the final after that. I wouldn’t let Sanju Samson go. If they want Riyan Parag as captain that’s up to them. I would still play Samson as a batter. They are paying him 18 crore, he added.
