Jaydev Unadkat has been part of the IPL since 2010. He currently plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team. On Wednesday, April 23rd, the left-arm fast bowler played his second match of the season in which he bagged his 100th wicket; that is pretty exciting!
That player achieved the milestone after dismissing Ryan Rickleton. But in an unusual twist, he has also registered a rather embarrassing record. It took Unadkat 106 innings to reach that milestone of 100 wickets, which is the slowest any fast bowler has done so in IPL history. Overall, he is the 18th fast bowler to attain the 100-wicket mark in the whole history of the IPL.
Before him, Vinay Kumar was the slowest to 100 wickets; he took 101 innings. Quite close behind him is Andre Russell of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who took 100 innings. Others in the list of slower bowlers to hit the 100-wicket mark in the IPL include Umesh Yadav and Zaheer Khan.
Players and Innings Taken to Reach 100 Wickets in IPL:
Player | Innings Taken |
---|---|
Jaydev Unadkat | 106 |
Vinay Kumar | 101 |
Andre Russell | 100 |
Umesh Yadav | 99 |
Zaheer Khan | 98 |
Anyway, on that day against MI, Unadkat finished with figures of 1 for 25 in 3 overs. Apart from him, Eshan Malinga and Zeeshan Ansari were the only other SRH bowlers who could take wickets. At this point, SRH has suffered their sixth loss of the season, which almost takes them out of the run for IPL 2025. They just did not bat well, and at one point, they were reeling at 35 for five in less than nine overs! Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar pulled them up to 143, but MI chased it down with 26 balls remaining in hand with seven wickets to spare.
