Joe Root will look to keep his form going in the fifth and final Test against India at The Oval in London, starting Thursday. He’s chasing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most Test runs.
He was good in the last Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. He scored 150 off 248 balls, 14 fours, and put his team in charge. He also went past Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest Test run-scorer. Tendulkar is still top with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests and 51 centuries.
So far, Root has 13,409 runs in 157 Tests and 286 innings, averaging 51.17, 38 centuries and 66 fifties. His highest score is 262.
In the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, Root has 403 runs in four Tests, averaging 67.16, two centuries and a fifty in seven innings. His best score is 150. He’s England’s second-highest run-scorer and sixth-highest overall.

Root’s record at The Oval is okay but not as good as his records at Old Trafford and Lord’s. He has 793 runs in 11 Tests and 20 innings there, averaging 41.73, two centuries and four fifties. His highest score is 149*. In the four Tests he’s played at The Oval in the last ten years, his scores are 21, 36, 23, 5, 91, 13 and 12. His last century there was in 2018 against India.
Can Root turn it around at The Oval and play another big one?
