India’s Test series against England has gone from good to bad, especially after their poor show in the 4th Test at Old Trafford. Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership couldn’t stop the English batters from reaching 554 for 7 by the end of the 3rd day.
Jonathan Trott is not happy with India’s performance in the Test. After being 1-2 down in the series, India was expected to put up a better fight in Manchester. But, the Indian team led by Shubman Gill couldn’t keep the English batting line up at bay, who scored 554 runs, losing 7 wickets. Bumrah’s bowling attack couldn’t keep the run rate down.
Trott, a former English cricketer and now head coach of Afghanistan, shared his thoughts on India’s situation. He told JioHotstar, where he works as an expert, that Bumrah was unlucky but bowled well. The problem was the lack of support from the other bowlers.
Trott said Bumrah bowled well and his economy rate shows it but he needed support from the other end which wasn’t there. He added when a team’s bowling is not up to the mark, you need to have control from both ends.
Newcomer Anshul Kamboj and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket each and Shardul Thakur wasn’t very effective. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar took 2 wickets each but couldn’t finish off the English batting line up.

Trott feels the game is slipping away from India. He praised Shubman Gill as a leader and batsman but thinks he is starting to wear down. India is missing a specialist pacer like Akash Deep who is injured. Trott thinks Akash’s absence is the reason why Gill’s team is struggling and believes the match is now beyond India’s reach.
Trott added Shubman Gill is on his first tour to England as a batsman and has been given a lot of responsibility as captain. He played well in the first three Tests but this game is too tough for India given the challenges and resources. India’s bowling suffered because Akash Deep who took 10 wickets in the last Test was out due to injury.By the end of 3rd day, England was in command thanks to Joe Root’s 150. Captain Ben Stokes was batting on 77* and Liam Dawson on 21* and England was leading by 186 runs.
