Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav paid his respects to Portuguese and Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota who passed away in a car crash with his brother Andre Silva on Thursday in Spain. Kuldeep said on X that the whole world has lost the light he brought to every field.
Jota was a main forward for Liverpool who helped them win the 2024-25 Premier League. Soon after he helped Portugal win the Nations League title. He got married to Rute Cardoso his long time partner recently and she survives him along with their three kids.
He signed in 2020, got number 20 and made it his forever. Today football is not the only thing that has lost. The whole world has lost too. Your smile brought light to every field you were on, whether it was Porto, Wolves or Liverpool. You won hearts everywhere. My thoughts are with his whole family. Rest in peace Diogo.

Today, football has not lost. The whole world has lost.
Your smile brought a shining light to the pitch you stepped on.
Whether it was Porto, Wolves or Liverpool. Hearts were made yours everywhere.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh also paid his respects to the player.
It’s hard to believe Diogo is gone! He brought the game to life every time he touched the ball! He was one of the best. My sympathies to the family. I can’t even think of the pain of losing both Diogo and his brother in the same crash. Strength to everyone who knew and loved them, he said.
Liverpool has taken Jersey 20 out of circulation in Jota’s honor and moments of silence are being held at sports games around the world.
