The 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final will be held at The Lords, London, June 11-15. In the WTC 2025 final, defending champions Australia will face title toppers South Africa from WTC 2023-25. Iconic London stadium will host the WTC final for the first time in history, but the ‘Home of Cricket’ is set to nearly lose 4 million pounds in revenue after India failed to qualify for the summit clash.
According to a report in The Times, “Organizers had originally priced tickets at a premium rate, believing India fan demand would outstrip supply, but the absence of India has significantly curtailed the financial windfall these events were expected to bring to Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)-showing the clout financial of Indian cricket within the game internationally.”
Rohit Sharma-led Team India was favourite for proceeding to the third WTC Final in a row, but six defeats in the last eight matches threw them out of the race. India suffered a shocking defeat inside its home turf against New Zealand, losing 0-3, and then faced a 1-3 humiliation in the corresponded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where the Pat Cummins-led side thrashed them to victory.
“Lord’s, anticipating participation from India, had originally priced tickets at premium levels because they relied on Indian cricket fans to demand more than what would be available. But once it became clear that India would not be involved in the final, MCC lowered rates. The decision was to favor having a fuller, more vibrant stadium rather than one with fewer spectators but with a few higher-priced seats,” stated the report.
The Marylebone Cricket Club heavily criticized for high ticket prices last year and because of that, they promised to review ticket pricing. “Adapted this year to prices flexible for the World Test Championship final, with up to £40 to £90 ticket prices-red about £50 from their original pricing, such loss in revenue counted,” The Times noted.
“Those MCC members who bought tickets before the price drop have been refunded the difference,” the report added further.
Such will be the WTC 2025 final, as well as that Lord’s, would receive the third Test among India and England’s Series, set to be played between July 10 and July 14.
