Fast bowler Akash Deep is back in action and feeling ready for the upcoming match for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday, April 4. The game will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. It’s been a while since Deep played, as the last time he was on the field was during the Boxing Day Test against Australia in last year’s Border Gavaskar Trophy. This year, he’s had to sit out due to a back injury, but he’s just joined the Super Giants’ camp a couple of days ahead of the big match.
Talking to reporters, Deep expressed how important this first game is for him. Even though he managed to play in a practice match, he knows that after being off the field for two or three months, getting back into the swing of things can be tough. It’s like, no matter how much you practice, that confidence only comes back when you’re actually playing in a match. He’s looking forward to getting back into the groove.
At 28 years old, Deep is also making a comeback in T20 cricket. His last appearance in this format was with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the same Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium last year. Even with time away from competitive play, he feels ready to tackle the challenge. He mentioned that while the jersey might change, the player remains the same, and he’s enjoying his time with the Super Giants. Even though injuries have kept him out for a bit, he’s feeling pretty confident.
Deep shared some valuable thoughts on staying focused and trusting in one’s own abilities. He thinks that maintaining a simple approach to the game makes performing a lot easier. For someone playing in a tournament like this, keeping up the confidence is huge.
On the overall standings, the Super Giants have had a mixed bag in IPL 2025 so far. They’re currently sitting in sixth place on the table with just two points, having won one out of their three matches. Their captain, Rishabh Pant, hasn’t really hit his stride yet this season, managing only 17 runs with an average of 5.67. It’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out as they prepare for the match against MI.
