KSCA might have to shift Maharaja T20 matches from M Chinnaswamy Stadium. ESPN reports that the state police have not given clearance to the stadium as it is still under investigation after the stampede on June 4 where 11 people died and many were injured.
The tournament is scheduled from August 11-27. KSCA had earlier said that matches would be played behind closed doors. Now KSCA is considering Alur facility outside Bengaluru and Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru as other options. Alur has no floodlights and seating which could be a problem for broadcasters and teams.
Alur will host the first Maharani T20 women’s tournament from August 4. KSCA wanted the final to be at Chinnaswamy but that’s not looking likely now.
Franchises are worried about the money they will lose. They have already booked hotels for players and staff thinking the matches would be at Chinnaswamy.
This is another headache for KSCA. Just last week a government committee said Chinnaswamy is not safe for big events.

According to PTI, the committee’s report to the state cabinet said the stadium’s design is not safe for big crowds. The commission suggested moving big events to safer venues.
The commission also discussed entry and exit gates, emergency plans and the risk to public safety when big events are held at the stadium.
A few international matches are planned for the ground, including the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup final. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who’s victory party led to the stampede plays at least 7 matches at this stadium and were hoping to play the final here as per IPL rules. All matches are now uncertain.
