Mark Boucher, the South African wicketkeeper-batter, has named four young players he thinks will be stars of the future. Two are Indian and two are South African. He didn’t mention India’s Test captain Shubman Gill despite his good form. In his first two Tests as captain, Gill scored 585 runs. He moved up 15 spots to become the world’s No. 6 Test batsman on Wednesday, July 9.
On ESPN Cricinfo’s 25 Questions show, Boucher was asked to name three young players who he thought would be stars. He named four: Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis.
Varma, Jaiswal, Stubbs and Brevis all made their mark during the U-19 World Cup before making their international debuts. Jaiswal is a regular in India’s Test and T20I teams, Varma plays for India’s T20I team and Stubbs is in South Africa’s team in all three formats.
During the Q&A, Boucher was also asked to pick three players for his all-time T20 XI. He chose Suryakumar Yadav, Heinrich Klaasen and Sachin Tendulkar.
Boucher, who some say is the greatest wicketkeeper ever, was asked to name the best wicketkeeper after him. He said, “For up-to-the-stumps keeping, definitely MS Dhoni, and for standing back I would pick Quinton de Kock.
