Changes in player availability for the rest of the IPL: would have reinforced reports from Cricbuzz that Mitchell Starc probably would not return to India while he is uncertain about Jake Fraser McGurk. If both miss out upon playing, it could be tricky for the Delhi Capitals still trying to enter the playoffs.
It is said that Starc was, in fact, dismayed after the cancellation of the Beijing DC & PBKS match due to security concerns, with players of both sides having undergone a rather long and tiring journey from Dharamsala to Jalandhar by road and then boarding a train at Jalandhar for Delhi. With the imminent finals of WTC, Starc may choose to keep himself ready for the same.
Pat Cummins and Travis Head, too in Australia’s WTC squad, are expected to have returned for SRH, so it could be a personal choice for Starc, and it seems McGurk is equally uncomfortable with what has happened in India.
Most other overseas players of DC should be back when the tournament recommences, including Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs. Likewise, Punjab Kings may be without Australian duo Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis when the season resumes, but everyone else will be good to go. IPL resumes on May 17, with the final set for June 3.
