Navjot Sidhu says Shubham Gill has started a new era. Sidhu tweeted that it’s not just the runs but the impact he had on the game, his 203 with the no 7 batsman and 103 with Washington Sundar.
Gill has created a new milestone in Indian cricket. He is the 6th Indian to score 250+ in a Test, after Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Karun Nair and Virat Kohli. His score is the highest by an Indian outside the subcontinent, beating Sachin Tendulkar’s 241* against Australia in Sydney 2004. He is the 3rd Indian to score a double century against England in England, along with Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar. He is the first Indian captain to score a double century against England in England, beating Mohammad Azharuddin’s 179 in 1990. He has surpassed Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 in 1979 for the highest individual score by an Indian in England.
He is the 4th Indian to score a century in both Tests and ODIs, after Sehwag, Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma. His score is the highest by an Indian captain, beating Kohli’s 254* against South Africa in 2019. He is the 3rd Indian captain to score 150+ in a Test before 26, along with Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sachin Tendulkar. This is only the 2nd time an Indian captain has scored a double century overseas, after Virat Kohli in 2016. He is the first Asian captain to score a double century in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia (SENA) countries.
