Australian fast bowler Xavier Bartlett is all set to join the San Francisco Unicorns for the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC). He is currently with the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and this summer he will be touring the U.S. Bartlett on the Unicorns is joined by the other Aussie players Cooper Connolly, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Matt Short under legendary Australian coach Ricky Ponting at Punjab.
Bartlett made all the right noises after a strong start to his T20I career, claiming 11 wickets from just seven appearances at an impressive economy. He was also the leading wicket-taker during the 2023-24 Big Bash League season while playing for Brisbane Heat. These performances earned him a national contract with Cricket Australia, which is active even now.
Unicorns’ coach Shane Watson spoke lots of greatness upon Bartlett’s skills, particularly with the ball in the new. He added that Xavier has been leading the bowling attack for Brisbane Heat and he would suit well to the Unicorns, as he gets early wickets. Watson also pointed to Bartlett’s maturity through the Australian cricketing systems into a smart bowler managing run rates and breaking key partnerships.
The MLC kicks off from June 12 to July 13, 2025, at different venues throughout the U.S. The league consists of six teams: Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom. With such names gracing the cricketing arrays, MLC should prove to be extraordinary.
