Rajat Patidar made history on Friday, March 28, by becoming the second captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to win an IPL match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The 31-year-old from Madhya Pradesh led RCB to a solid 50-run victory over CSK in the IPL 2025 match.
RCB batted first after CSK’s captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, won the toss. They managed to score 196 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs and kept CSK to 146/8. Josh Hazlewood was impressive with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs in four overs, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone each picked up two wickets.
Before this match, RCB hadn’t won in Chennai against CSK since May 21, 2008, when Rahul Dravid was at the helm. Back then, they defended a modest score of 126 runs for a 14-run win.
Patidar becomes second skipper to do so
Patidar was the standout performer for RCB, batting at No. 4 and scoring 51 runs off 32 balls, which included four fours and three sixes. This innings also made him the second RCB captain, after Virat Kohli, to hit a half-century against CSK at this stadium. Kohli scored 58 runs in a 2013 match.
With this win, RCB is now on a roll, having secured two victories in a row in IPL 2025. They currently sit at the top of the points table with 4 points from their first two matches.
