Chepauk has this unique vibe that everyone seems to feel, not just the loyal fans of Anbu-den. RCB’s captain, Rajat Patidar, definitely got caught up in it, especially after his team pulled off a solid 50-run victory against CSK. It was quite the match, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru showed off their skills and broke a long, frustrating 17-year losing streak at Chepauk.
Patidar himself had a great game, scoring a crucial fifty. Along with some rapid runs from the guys at the top of the order, Tim David really capped off the innings with a powerful finish. RCB ended their batsman series with a strong 196 runs on the board. When it was time for CSK to bat, RCB’s bowlers stepped up, with Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal putting pressure on CSK’s lineup. They managed to limit CSK to just 146 runs, which was a pretty decent effort considering RCB had them on the back foot for most of the game.
After the match, Patidar couldn’t help but express how great it is to play at Chepauk. The atmosphere is electric, thanks to the passionate fans. He said, “It’s always special playing here against Chennai because of the fans. Not just CSK, but every team has a great home ground.” He picked up the Player of the Match award, and it was funny how he survived not one, but three dropped catches while making his fifty. Those missed chances were crucial for him as he capitalized on them to keep piling on the runs against CSK.
What’s even more impressive is that with his 51 runs, Patidar made history by becoming the second RCB captain, after Virat Kohli, to score a fifty against CSK at Chepauk in IPL history. They aimed to reach a target of around 200 runs, knowing how tough it can be for the opposing team to chase that down. Patidar knew he had to stay focused and keep playing each delivery like it was the last.
With this win, he has officially marked his name in the records, joining the ranks of the RCB captains with an IPL win against Chennai in their home ground. The last time RCB celebrated a victory at Chepauk was way back on May 21, 2008, so you can imagine how special this one felt.
This win also shot RCB right to the top of the IPL 2025 leaderboard, as they’ve managed to win both of their matches in the tournament so far. Next up for them is a big game back at their home turf, Chinnaswamy Stadium, where they’ll face off against the Gujarat Titans led by Shubman Gill on April 2. Meanwhile, CSK will be eager to bounce back from this defeat as they prepare to take on the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. They’ll need to shake this one off and come back strong!
