Chennai Super Kings ended their IPL 2025 season in the most dreadful manner possible by finishing dead last at No. 10. Injured for the season, Ruturaj Gaikwad saw the senior most MS Dhoni taking over his mantle to lead the team. While Dhoni couldn’t manage to win from the matches, Mr. Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin had shared a few memories of the first time he met Dhoni during a conversation on YouTube.
Jadeja said, “I remember first meeting MS Dhoni in the 2005 Challenger Trophy in Chennai. I was flying into Chennai from Mumbai, and I think so was he. I was air economy class; he was all the way in business class. People used to say that Dhoni was sitting up there, but I just was too shy to go and talk to him. Honestly, even now, I sometimes feel a bit nervous when I want to approach him, especially when he appears to be a little distant.”
Both Jadeja and Dhoni have been representing Chennai Super Kings together since 2012 and have played 205 matches together, winning 116 of those. They have also represented India together, with Dhoni behind the stumps and always there for support in the field with the bowling or catching. Jadeja said, “I have never heard Dhoni talk about his own accomplishments; he always talked about helping the other ten players.”

This season was certainly not Dhoni’s brightest, scoring only 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 24.5 and a strike rate of 135.17. As was expected, Dhoni confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad shall be the next skipper for the Yellow Army in 2026, setting Dhoni free to regroup and come back stronger without holding the pressure of captaincy.
