The Women’s World Cup is back in India and Sri Lanka and everyone’s wondering if we’ll see some records broken. The ICC says some of the best batsmen and bowlers are ready to make their mark.
One record that’s been around for a while is Debbie Hockley’s 1501 runs. She set that in 2000 and no one’s been able to beat it since. Not even Mithali Raj of India with 1321 runs. But this year Suzie Bates of New Zealand might just have a chance. She’s 322 runs away and will play at least 7 games.
Harmanpreet Kaur of India isn’t too far behind with 876 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt of England has 805 runs. If they have a good tournament they could get close to the top.

Then there’s Belinda Clark’s incredible 229 not out against Denmark in Mumbai in 1997. The pitches are expected to be good for batting so let’s see if anyone can beat that.
Right now four players are tied for the most centuries at the Women’s World Cup with four each. Sciver-Brunt and Bates are both playing this year so one of them could be the first to get a fifth. Harmanpreet already has three so she’s in the running too.
When it comes to bowling Jhulan Goswami of India is in the lead with 43 wickets. But Megan Schutt of Australia (34 wickets), Marizanne Kapp of South Africa (32) and Ellyse Perry of Australia (31) could catch up if they do well.
This year’s tournament is special because five players are playing in their fifth World Cup: Bates, Sophie Devine, Kapp, Perry and Harmanpreet Kaur.
One more thing to watch out for is if anyone can beat Jackie Lord’s amazing bowling figures from 1982. She took 6 wickets for 10 runs against India. Only three other bowlers have taken 6 wickets in a game since then: Glenys Page (6/20), Sophie Ecclestone (6/36) and Anya Shrubsole (6/46). Just one more reason to tune in.
