Former England spinner Panesar has lavished praise on the youngster, saying he could be the greatest that India ever produced. Sudharsan has become a first-choice Test pick for the five-match series against England in Leeds, beginning on June 20. He had quite an impressive run in IPL 2025 with the Gujarat Titans, where he was an opener in all 15 matches he played and scored 759 runs with one century and six half-centuries to his name. Thereby, he managed to realize the Orange Cap and Emerging Player of the Season Awards.
Having played three ODIs and one T20I for India so far, Sudharsan is expected to play alongside Shubman Gill in the series. Panesar, who represented England between 2006 and 2013 and took 167 wickets in 50 Tests, said that Sudarsan can win matches with his aggressive and fearless approach and hopes that this new Indian team can carry forward the legacy left behind by Virat Kohli.
When asked if there was anyone who could take up the mantle of Kohli, Panesar talked about some great talent and particularly about Sudharsan, who has proved his mettle in English conditions playing for Surrey. Panesar thinks Sudharsan might really get up to filling that No. 4 slot that Kohli made his own.
