Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian cricketer, had some questions about the Indian team’s choices in the second Test against England, especially benching Sai Sudharsan after just one game.
Manjrekar said in an ESPNcricinfo video that while a win can hide questionable choices, some calls surprised him.
I didn’t agree with some of the choices made in the last game, Manjrekar said. A win can cover those decisions in the end. I thought Sai Sudharsan would be left out after just one game, though he played okay in the second innings, since he is a young player for the future. I’d stick with him, but this team isn’t afraid to make changes based on the feeling.
Manjrekar wanted Sai Sudharsan at No. 3 and commented on Karun Nair’s suitability for that spot.
I’d like to see Sai Sudharsan at number three. I don’t think Karun Nair is a number three player, he said. It’s not right to drop him after one Test if everyone is scoring big. Sai also deserves that chance.
Manjrekar also supported Karun Nair, mentioning the emotions around his selection and return.
I want Karun Nair to get another chance because of the story of his selection and comeback, he said.

Manjrekar thought Nitish Kumar Reddy could make room for Nair lower in the batting order.
Maybe Nitish Kumar Reddy could give him his spot down the order, he said.
