According to The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan will be going to England for the India ‘A’ tour before embarking on the Test series against Ben Stokes’ team. The BCCI named a 14-member squad for the first fixture of the tour, with those players not involved in the IPL 2025 playoffs. The tour begins on May 30, just a few days after the initially scheduled IPL final of May 25. The final, however, has since been postponed by a few days until June 3 due to some recent diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. Both Jaiswal’s Rajasthan Royals and Kishan’s Sunrisers Hyderabad missed out on the playoffs beginning May 29.
The report also refers to players such as Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian, Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Manav Suthar. It appears India is viewing Kamboj and Khaleel as bowlers who can help with the workload of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami. It is highly likely that Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana will be welcomed in the senior squad too.
On the spin department, Suthar may be coached into becoming an all-rounder in the long term. The report further adds that Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar are two players unlikely to be taken on the ‘A’ tour. Sarfaraz may bypass the A squad for the main side, given his failure in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, while Patidar is out of action owing to a finger injury.
As for the players after the first India ‘A’ game, names such as Shubman Gill, who is being spoken of as a captain of the test team will travel alongside Washington Sundar and Sai Sudarshan. Before the test match there will be an intra squad match as well but it will not be telecasted.
