Nowadays, with his career surging ahead as a batsman and as a captain, Shreyas Iyer is making the maximum waves. After taking the Punjab Kings to an IPL final for the first time in ten years, he has carried this momentum forward and taken the Sobo Mumbai Falcons into the semi-finals of the T20 Mumbai League in 2025. He has really elevated his reputation as a solid leader, making him possibly the next captain of India’s white-ball team.
“Captaincy brings a lot of maturity and responsibility,” Iyer says of his recent success. Since the start of IPL, his captaincy has received loads of praise, and even suggestions have arisen that he could soon be leading the Indian team in white-ball formats.
“The pressure comes with captaincy itself. You are expected to perform and help the team, especially when things get rough,” he said, adding that he has been a captain since he was 22-year-old and enjoyed every moment of it. Right after the IPL final on 3rd June, he slipped straight into the shoes of captaincy of the Sobo Falcons, and the transition could not have been better.
The semi-finals of the T20 Mumbai League will be played on Tuesday at Wankhede, with the final scheduled for Thursday. Eagle Thane Strikers take on their first semi-final opponents, the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, whilst the Sobo Mumbai Falcons take on the Bandra Blasters in the second.
