SuperK, a budget retail chain, has raised Rs.100 crore (about $12 million) in a Series B round. The investment was led by 3STATE Ventures and CaratLane founder Mithun Sacheti. Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill and existing investors Blume Ventures and Xeed Ventures also participated.
SuperK, which started in 2020 and is based in Andhra Pradesh, has 130 stores across more than 80 small towns run by franchisees.
SuperK focuses on affordable groceries and household items, targeting India’s massive $600 billion grocery market. Organized retail is less than 5% of this market, mainly in Tier-II cities and beyond.
Anil Thontepu and Neeraj Menta, who went to BITS Pilani together and are both starting their second business, founded SuperK. Mr. Gill adds youthful energy as an investor. Mr. Thontepu previously led product and growth at Kaodim, Hike and PhonePe. Mr. Menta co-founded Hungerbox and created products at Flipkart and Zeta (Directi).

Mr. Gill’s Investment History
Mr. Gill, 25, has been in finance for a while. In 2024, he and Preity Zinta co-founded Drive Fitt, a fitness chain combining cricket-inspired training with regular fitness routines. The company plans to open 300 fitness centers across India through franchising.
Mr. Gill expanded his global reach by investing in Vicus Ventures, a US-based venture capital firm. This was his entry into start-up funding and innovation. This partnership has given him access to international business networks and venture incubation. Vicus Ventures focuses on sports-tech, wellness and consumer brands – areas that align with Mr. Gill’s personal brand and public image.
Mr. Gill is currently leading the Indian team in England, where they are 2-1 down. The Manchester Test could be the series decider as India need to win to keep the five-match series alive.
