South Africa’s win in the 2023-25 World Test Championship has moved them up one spot in the ICC Test rankings. They are now second with 114 points, ahead of England who have 113. Australia is still top with 123 points.
India is fourth with 105 points, struggling after losses to Australia and New Zealand, eight points behind England. Shubman Gill’s team will face Ben Stokes’ England in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy starting June 20. New Zealand is fifth and Zimbabwe is 12th.
South Africa’s win over Australia was a big upset. Their bowlers, especially Kagiso Rabada, did a great job, restricting the Aussies to 212 and 207. Although Pat Cummins fought hard, taking the Proteas for 138 in the second innings, which set a target of 282.
On a tricky pitch that hasn’t been kind to big chases, many didn’t think South Africa would get it done after losing two early wickets for 70. But Aiden Markram hit a century and even injured captain Temba Bavuma scored a half-century and the lower middle order kept calm and wrapped up a 5 wicket win.
