Suryakumar Yadav had an awesome game for the Mumbai Indians on Monday (March 31) in the IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium. Coming in at No. 4, he played a quick innings, scoring 27 runs off just nine balls with three fours and two sixes. He wrapped up the match by hitting a six off Andre Russell in the 13th over, helping MI secure their first win of the season.
With this performance, Suryakumar joined an elite group of Indian batsmen, becoming only the fifth player after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan to reach 8000 runs in T20s. He hit his 8000th run on the third ball of that 13th over from Russell. Overall, he has played 312 T20s and has scored 8007 runs, including 796 fours and 349 sixes, along with six centuries and 54 fifties.
Kohli holds the record for the most runs scored in T20s by an Indian, with 12,976 runs in 401 matches. Rohit follows with 11,851 runs in 451 matches, then comes Dhawan with 9797 runs in 334 matches, and Raina at 8654 runs in 336 matches.
As for Suryakumar, he was retained by MI for Rs 16.35 crore before the IPL 2025 mega auctions. He has played 99 IPL matches for MI, scoring 3090 runs, making him the third leading run scorer for the team. In the IPL, he has two centuries and 23 fifties, and he’s even led the team in two matches.
