The Bangladesh Cricket Board is hoping that Taskin Ahmed will be completely fit before the start of the Sri Lanka series on June 17. The series will include two Tests, three T20s, and three ODIs. The series would open starting with the First Test at Galle on June 17, whereas the Second Test shall see action at Colombo from June 25.
Taskin missed the recent Test series against Zimbabwe due to an Achilles tendon injury for which he has been under treatment in London. He, however, will not be part of the series against Pakistan and UAE but the Board is hopeful that he will be fit to take the field in about a month’s time.
Senior physician Debashish Chowdhury said, “The medical team is encouraged about Taskin’s recovery and is taking a very prudent approach towards his rehabilitation. The specialists regard that the best course for him right now would be through non-surgical means.” Chowdhury added that the rehabilitation program aims at gradually bringing him back to fitness rather than rushing him through it.

In the recent two-match series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh had drawn 1-1, facing severe backlash for losing the first Test but coming back well to win the second. Strong performances in Sri Lanka would thus be vital for them in cementing their standing in Test cricket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz made a tremendous impact with a century in the second Test, and his performance, alongside the experience of Mushfiqur Rahim, will be worth watching on the Sri Lanka tour.
