The England cricket team is planning to hire Tim Southee, former New Zealand bowler, as a consultant for the bowling unit just before the mega matches this summer. First, they have a five-Test series starting from June against India, and later in the year the Ashes will follow, and they want this to boost the coaching staff. Southee retired from international cricket in 2024, which means he could be part of working with head coach Brendon McCullum and assistant Jeetan Patel and add up to the number of Kiwis, which are already there in England’s coaching.
Southee has captured 391 wickets in 107 Test matches, so he is New Zealand’s second most prolific wicket-taker in Test history and will have a lot to give to a transitioning England bowling attack. This is after James Anderson, who was supposed to mentor, will not be around due to domestic commitments with Lancashire after retiring.

According to the BBC, England sees Southee as an option for the time being to replace Anderson. “Their summer plans make for fascinating wallpaper and include a Test against Zimbabwe in May, followed by a series against India A and then the main India series. The Ashes against Australia wrap more excitement onto an already very busy schedule for Ben Stokes’ team.”
The national side’s coach, Brendon McCullum, imported a bold and fearless style since taking charge. He is joined by Jeetan Patel, Marcus Trescothick, and Paul Collingwood, each with a strong background in different aspects of the game. James Anderson is working as a fast-bowling consultant with the next generation of English bowlers. Rob Key is managing the overall cricket operations, being the Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket.
