Former Australian cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru player Aaron Finch recently spoke of his opinion when it comes to deciding the importance of Virat Kohli in the team. Finch said, You can have someone in your lineup such as Kohli, who’s piling on the runs at the rate of about 650 every single season; the comfort level becomes that much more for the rest of the batters. It frees them up to play aggressively, knowing that Kohli will be steadying the ship even if his strike rate isn’t astronomical.
Kohli showed up yet again in a match played last Thursday against the Rajasthan Royals at Bengaluru. He scored 70 runs off 42 balls, thereby supporting his side to a good total of 205 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Finch commented, If one of your top three batters could do that at the start of the season, you’re taking that deal each and every time. It gives your whole team a great foundation to build from.

He stated that the same thing gives the environment for the team to go for some more aggressive plays in the middle. They tried it out with Livingstone recently but it didn’t come off as planned. Finch also mentioned Maxwell’s high-risk style from last year as having been more aggressive with his technique. He adds, “Once Virat gets going, he rarely gets out for less than 30 runs which is a great sign for the team.”
Such superb form maintained by Kohli is going to prove critical for the RCB which wants to make it big in the IPL 2025 season. The team occupies the third position in the points table, with 12 in the kitty out of nine matches, registering six wins and three losses. Besides Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal was also impressive, getting 50 runs off 27 balls, adding 95 runs for the second wicket, which primarily helped to stabilize the innings.
Kohli had a boundary after a thick inside edge and pulled a delivery from Archer to deep square leg; when he came back out, he flicked Deshpande for another four. With another boundary off Sandeep Sharma, Kohli contributed to take RCB to finish the powerplay with a healthy 59 runs on the board.
Next, RCB play against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 27, at their opponents’home ground. It remains to be seen if Kohli can keep this fine run going and take his team to yet another victory.
