Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are set to meet in the IPL 2025 final, marking a chance for a new champion. Both teams have been around since 2008. This is RCB’s fourth time in the finals after 2009, 2011, and 2016, while PBKS is making their second appearance since 2014. Neither team has won the trophy yet, so whoever takes it home will finally break the long wait.
Before the match, former Punjab Kings captain Virender Sehwag shared his thoughts on who might win. With a bit of humor, he said, I think RCB will win. I’ve gone back to my old ways since the team I support usually loses. Just look at GT against MI or Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 against RCB. I supported MI against PBKS in Qualifier 2, and they lost too, he told Cricbuzz. Host Gaurav Kapoor then asked, So who do you think will win? Sehwag replied, RCB. He added, “It’s the same with the Indian team. Whenever I support them openly, they tend to lose.
If RCB wins the IPL 2025, it would mean a lot for Virat Kohli. He has dedicated 18 years of his career to RCB, and their new captain, Rajat Patidar, knows what a win would mean for a player like Kohli. RCB has played in three finals previously and lost each time, despite Kohli’s standout performances not being enough to secure a title.

When asked about the attention Kohli gets, Patidar said, “Of course, he has given a lot of years to both RCB and the international side. We’ll do our best in the game. He also mentioned, “I don’t find it frustrating. We’re not focusing on the stage we’re at; we just want to play our best cricket. I like to keep things simple.”
The support for Kohli has brought RCB plenty of fans, even when they play away. Patidar noted, “Wherever we go, it feels like home with the way the crowd has shown support over the years.”
