On Friday night, the Gujarat Titans will meet the Mumbai Indians to contest the Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. A win will secure the team a berth in the second qualifier at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 1.
GT were once heavy favorites to finish on top of the points table, but they lost their last two matches and thus slipped to third position. On the other hand, MI also had their chances of crushing into the top two, yet having dropped two of their last three matches, settled at the fourth.
Originally, playoffs were to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata; however, they were forced to be moved around after IPL 2025 got suspended for almost a week due to the India-Pakistan situation. Following that, quite a few matches were moved on account of an impending rain forecast, so as to ensure none get cancelled. So now, first qualifier and Eliminator shall be hosted in Mullanpur, second qualifier, and final in Ahmedabad.

Should wet weather descend from heaven and wash away the match midway, thus leading to an abandonment, then GT, finishing above in points table, shall progress to the next round while MI shall be thrown out. As regards reserve days, there appears to be some confusion from the IPL Governing Council. It does not seem like they will be observed because the second qualifier is fixed for the day after Eliminator in Ahmedabad.
