The ICC has chosen England as the host for the next three World Test Championship (WTC) finals in 2027, 2029 and 2031. This was announced during the ICC’s Annual General Meeting in Singapore. England got the nod mainly because they’ve done a good job hosting recent finals.
All WTC finals so far have been held in England. New Zealand beat India in the first final in 2021 and Australia beat India in 2023. Even though England weren’t in those finals, many people still came to watch. The latest final where South Africa beat Australia had full stadiums most days.
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) wanted to host the WTC final in India but the ICC said no and gave the rights to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
ECB’s CEO Richard Gould said this shows how much cricket fans in England love Test cricket. He also thanked fans from all over for coming to England to watch the games. He added that getting the next three finals proves how passionate the country’s fans are about this format and how happy people are to come here from other countries for the games.
Another reason could be the weather. The ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) puts the World Test Championship final around May or June. This is when summer is at its peak in India and other Asian countries and the heat can be dangerous for players.

England on the other hand has cooler weather in early June which is better for Test cricket. This time also comes after the IPL and when there aren’t many other international games scheduled which is why the ICC prefers it for the final.
England doesn’t have big cricket leagues like the IPL in May and June so it’s easier to plan international matches. And even if England isn’t playing lots of fans still come to the games. This support makes England a safe bet for the ICC.
