Mumbai Indians‘ captain Hardik Pandya and coach Mahela Jayawardene said they wanted Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar to make sure they had some experienced bowlers who could handle the heat.
Mumbai got Boult for a huge Rs 12.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He’s back with the team and teaming up with Jasprit Bumrah again.
Bumrah is likely to miss some games as he gets better from a back injury.

Mumbai had a rough time in IPL 2024, finishing last with only four wins. They brought in Pandya as captain before the season, but his first year didn’t go as expected.
Before the IPL 2025 auction, Mumbai kept Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Bumrah, and Tilak Varma. They let go of the other players to keep the main group together.
Besides Boult and Chahar, Mumbai also bought Will Jacks, Mitchell Santner, Ryan Rickelton, and Reece Topley, among other international players.
For Indian players, Mumbai picked up Robin Minz, Karn Sharma, Vignesh Puthur, and Satyanarayana Raju.
Mumbai’s fast bowling options include Boult, Chahar, Topley, and Corbin Bosch, along with Pandya, Ashwani Kumar, Raju, Arjun Tendulkar, and Raj Angad Bawa.
With Bumrah possibly out, Mumbai might need to rethink their bowling strategy. Boult and Chahar are good at the start of the innings, but they might lack experience at the end.
Mumbai starts their season against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, March 23, in Chennai
