Roger Binny, the BCCI president, turns 70 on Saturday, July 19. As the highest wicket taker in the 1983 World Cup, he may have to go as the BCCI has an age limit.
Binny took over as BCCI president from Sourav Ganguly on October 18, 2022. He has been at the helm for almost three years and fans are waiting to see what happens on July 19.
The BCCI has an age limit of 70 for its officials. This rule was brought to the Supreme Court’s notice in 2016 after the Lodha Committee’s suggestion. The court mentioned Jagmohan Dalmiya who was BCCI president till he was 75.
Here are the BCCI rules for who can hold office:
(a) Must be an Indian citizen.
(b) Must be under 70 years old.
(c) Must not be bankrupt or mentally unsound.
(d) Cannot be a Minister, Government Servant or hold a public office.
(e) Cannot hold a post in another sports association besides cricket.
(f) Has not been an Office Bearer of the BCCI for a total of 9 years.

Who will replace Roger Binny?
If Binny has to go, Rajeev Shukla is the front runner to take his place. Shukla is the current BCCI vice-president and at 65, he will be the interim president till elections are held later this year.
Kushan Sarkar from PTI said Shukla will be the interim president. Another option is Binny stays on till September when the BCCI holds its Annual General Meeting.
