Yashasvi Jaiswal was just 10 runs short of breaking Rahul Dravid’s record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs. He was dismissed by Ben Stokes for 87, ending a 66-run partnership with Shubman Gill.

In this series he has 192 runs in 3 innings in 2 matches, with a century and a fifty. He has another chance to equal Dravid’s record in the next innings. Don Bradman holds the overall record, reaching 2,000 Test runs in 15 matches and 22 innings.

A 50 run partnership between Jaiswal and Gill helped India reach 200 by the end of the 2nd session on day 1 of the 2nd Test against England in Birmingham on Wednesday.
India was 182/3 after Jaiswal’s dismissal, Gill (42*) and Rishabh Pant (14*) unbeaten.
India started the 2nd session at 98/2, Jaiswal (62*) and Gill (1*) at the crease. India reached 100 in 25.3 overs. Gill and Jaiswal were cautious, Gill survived a close lbw call against Chris Woakes. Gill then relieved pressure with 2 boundaries in the 33rd over.
After a solid first session, the pair was not looking to score quickly, they reached their 50 run partnership in 103 balls. Gill was settling in, Jaiswal was reducing his attacking play.

Just when it seemed they would finish the session together, Stokes struck, edging Jaiswal’s bat, the catch taken by Jamie Smith. Jaiswal got out for 87 from 107 balls, India 161/3 in 45.1 overs, ending the 66 run 3rd wicket partnership.
Rishabh Pant came in and broke a 22 ball scoreless period with a six off Shoaib Malik’s delivery, while Gill reached 40. Gill and Pant finished the session without further loss.
