Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of the promising young players in Indian cricket, is making a big change in his career. After being a part of the Mumbai state team since his under-19 days, he has decided to switch things up and will be joining the Goa team for the next season. Apparently, he sent an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) asking for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to make this move.
He’s not the only one from Mumbai making this jump; other players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad have also chosen to play for Goa in recent times. Recently, Jaiswal played for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy after returning from a tough time in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it necessary for players on the national team to participate in domestic red-ball cricket, which brought back stars like Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli to their respective state teams.
Next season, fans will see Jaiswal sporting the Goa jersey. A source from MCA mentioned that about Jaiswal’s request, saying, He has asked for an NOC and has stated that the reason for his move is personal. Meanwhile, Shamba Desai, the secretary of Goa Cricket Association, expressed excitement about welcoming Jaiswal. “He wants to play for us, and we’re glad about it. He could even be a captain when he’s not busy with the national team,” he added when asked about Jaiswal’s potential captaincy.
On a different note, Jaiswal has had a rough start to the IPL 2025 season with the Rajasthan Royals. In the three matches he’s played, he’s only scored 34 runs and his team has been struggling to get the results they want. He’s been averaging just 11.33 with a strike rate of 106.25, and his highest score so far is 29. His performances so far in the matches have been 1, 29, and 4, which isn’t what fans were hoping for.
Another point of concern is how he’s been doing during the powerplay. Since IPL 2024, he’s faced some challenges particularly in the first three overs of the innings. Out of 18 times, he’s been out eight times during this critical phase, which gives him a dismissal rate of about 44 percent. This is a noticeable jump from the 29 percent dismissal rate he had in 2022 and 2023, when he managed to score a solid 625 runs.
Looking back at his 2024 season, it wasn’t his best either. Jaiswal scored 435 runs, with an average of 31.07 and a striking rate close to 156. But he only had one century and one half-century to show for it. Interestingly, his attacking shot percentage has taken a dip to 70 percent in the last two seasons compared to the previous ones, which makes you think about what adjustments he might need to make moving forward. Overall, it’s a turning point for Jaiswal, and fans are eager to see how he adapts in both domestic and IPL games in the future.
