According to Cricbuzz on June 4, Zaheer Khan, who was mentoring Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025, is therefore reported to be likely to part ways with the team. This said, Zaheer is facing reprimands for LSG’s poor show this season. LSG won barely six matches out of a possible 14, concluding their league journey at the 7th position in the points table with 12 points.
Zaheer came on board as the mentor just before the IPL 2025 auction on a one-year contract, which now needs renewal. Sources said, “It would be surprising if he stays on.”
Zaheer was operating alongside Justin Langer as the head coach, whose contract is also up for renewal. There appears to be some dissatisfaction within the team and the management, focused mostly on Zaheer than Langer, as per the Cricbuzz report.
The LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka, is deeply passionate about cricket and the IPL; the fact being that the team hasn’t made a playoff in the last two seasons. Although Zaheer cannot be blamed for the trials in 2024 alone, the management is sorely disappointed with what has transpired this year in their eyes.

Zaheer had a working relationship with Rishabh Pant, the captain of LSG. Zaheer also played for MI, RCB, and DC during his IPL career and is also a former captain of Delhi Capitals. While Zaheer should not be blamed for Pant’s underwhelming show, he is partially responsible for the direction of the team. Lose or win, both Zaheer and Pant wanted to encourage fearless cricket, but that has not come to fruition.
LSG had spent Rs 27 crore on Pant in last year’s auction, but Pant didn’t do well, as a captain and also as a batter, in 2025, with just one century and one fifty and the team failed to qualify for the playoffs on the second consecutive occasions
