He shared his views on the target, mentioning, I still feel that scoring 170 runs was a fair challenge on this pitch. It wasn’t easy to get runs out there. Our fielding wasn’t up to scratch today, and that really hurt us. When you chase down 170, there’s a bit more time to work with. But once you find yourself needing 20 more runs to win, you have to adjust your batting in the early overs, and we just couldn’t do that this time.
Gaikwad also noted that the pitch changed as the game went on. It felt like the surface got a bit slower, and the ball started to stick a bit more than usual. I’m not sure why that happened, he said, reflecting on a couple of missed opportunities. He talked about his and Rahul’s intent to play aggressive shots, but sometimes those attempts don’t pan out the way you hope.
He was honest about his team’s performance, specifically pointing out that fielding was a big area that needs work. We really need to step up our game in the field. We dropped some crucial catches, and that allowed RCB to keep the pressure on us throughout the match, he explained.
Despite the loss, Ruturaj seemed to focus on the positives, reminding everyone that it wasn’t a complete blowout. At least we didn’t lose by a huge margin, just 50 runs. If we had a couple of world-class spinners in the lineup, that would have changed the game. Today, that didn’t play out for us.
Looking ahead, he was realistic about what they needed to do next. We have a long trip to Guwahati for our next game, but it’s all about being in the right mindset and figuring out exactly where we can improve. Gaikwad’s approach, while unusual in a sense, shows a focus on growth and learning – something every team aims for after a tough match.
