Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of India’s World Cup-winning cricket team, and now a key player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is often regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the league. At 43 years old, Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL championships since the league started, showcasing his incredible talent in wicket-keeping, captaincy, and batting. Known for his ability to hit big runs during the death overs, he has amassed over 5,000 runs in the IPL with an impressive strike rate of 137.69.
In the next match against the Delhi Capitals, taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Dhoni is set to take charge since their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is recovering from an injury. So far in this season, Dhoni has contributed little with the bat, scoring 30 and 16 in CSK’s games, both of which were losses. Currently, the team has only managed to win one out of three matches.
Despite the team’s struggles, Dhoni is on the brink of achieving three big milestones as a wicket-keeper in this upcoming match against DC:

1. Catches for CSK
Dhoni needs just 2 more catches to reach 150 catches for CSK. Across 261 matches in the IPL and the now-defunct Champions League T20, Dhoni has made 148 catches—144 of them as a wicket-keeper and 4 while fielding. If he grabs those two catches, he will become the first player in CSK history to reach 150. He already holds the record for the most catches overall in IPL history, surpassing Dinesh Karthik’s count of 145.
2. Stumpings for CSK:
Dhoni is also just one stumping away from hitting 50 stumpings for CSK. He currently sits at 49, which includes his performances in both the IPL and the Champions League T20. Overall in the IPL, he has achieved 45 stumpings, which means he’s the all-time leader in that category too.
3. Dismissals for CSK:
The third record he might break in this game is having the most dismissals in CSK history. Dhoni has already recorded 197 dismissals, so he’s only three away from reaching the significant milestone of 200. This total includes his dismissals in the IPL for CSK and his previous franchise, the Rising Pune Supergiants.
