The Indian pacer Mohammed Shami who is often called a speed demon has once again secured his place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he is going to play for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise in 2026. He was on the LSG team after he spent one year with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and the transfer was officially completed on November 15.
As Shami gears up for a new team, let us remember five of his best bowling displays in IPL till now.
Mohammed Shami Best Bowling Performance in IPL
5. 3-21 vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2021
Shami’s delivery was like a rocket taking the middle and lower-order batsmen of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He was unsuccessful with the new ball but was economical and Shami was again called back by his Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul to bowl his remaining two overs.
The fast bowler took the scalp of Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, and Chris Morris in a very short time and his three-wicket spell helped reduce the Royals from 166-4 to 185 all out. Mohammed Shami was able to register magnificent figures of 3-21 in the high-scoring innings.
4. 3-21 vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2019
Mohammed Shami gave an exceptional performance for Punjab Kings in the match with Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2019. After scoring a classy century by KL Rahul, Shami struck first by sending the opener of Mumbai Siddhesh Lad walking with his perfect delivery before trapping the Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal, in the 16th over.
Sadly, the very rent he drew in the realm of his deadly spell was largely covered up by the mighty Kieron Pollard’s thunderous knock of 31-ball 83 when Mumbai Indians accomplished a last-ball win. However, in the match where something close to 400 runs were made, Shami’s statistical record of 3-21 in 4 overs was in a class of its own and by a wide margin.
3. 3-15 vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2020
In the very first week of IPL 2020 in Dubai, Mohammed Shami opened with the new ball and rattled the top order of Delhi Capitals. The pace bowler got rid of Delhi Capitals’ first batter Prithvi Shaw and number 3 Shimron Hetmyer both in the fourth over, and also duped their good-humored skipper Shreyas Iyer with a slower one later in the inning to garner stats of 3-15 from his four overs. It was an unfortunate situation for Shami that Marcus Stoinis hammered 53 off only 21 balls, thus making it 157-8 for Capitals, before Punjab Kings messed up the chase in the last over and lost the match in a tie-breaker.
2. 4-21 vs SRH, IPL 2023
In the whole of his decade-long IPL career, Mohammed Shami took only two four-wicket hauls, and he got both of them during a span of just two weeks. The second of those four-wicket hauls came off in the match which numbered 62 in IPL season 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. While defending 189, Shami struck once in each of his first three overs of the innings for Gujarat Titans and put the Sunrisers on the mat at 29-4.
The bowler who made the iconic fast bowlers’ list also took away the scalps of Heinrich Klaasen at the death and ended up with figures of 4-21 in his four overs as the Gujarat hosts notched up an easy 34-run victory.
1. 4-11 vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2023
Mohammed Shami’s terrific performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad left the Delhi Capitals annihilated by a fierce four-wicket haul in match 44 of the IPL 2023 season.
The speedster gave away just 11 runs from his four overs, and picked up the wickets of Phil Salt, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg to restrict the Capitals to just 130-8 in 20 overs.
Even though Gujarat Titans lost the match by five runs in the end, Mohammed Shami bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his electrifying spell
