Rajasthan Royals have had a terrible night giving away a 100-run victory to MI that put MI atop the points table. This was RR’s exit from the competition, marking a traumatic season for them.
In an interview after the match, Adam Gilchrist, former Aussie player and IPL-winning captain, gave his views on what went wrong for these Royals this season. He said, “Talking to Cricbuzz, he stated that Jos Buttler was the big miss,” he said. “That was one of the most important choices; someone in the team management has to be answerable for it.”
Gilchrist stated, “We heard Mike Hussey saying that CSK got it wrong at the auction, and now they’re out. Someone has to be accountable for the choice about Jos Buttler. RR got it wrong too, so there has to be some accountability. There have definitely got to be questions internally, that was a bad mistake.”
In an interesting turn of events, The Royals surprisingly opted to release Jos Buttler and retained players like Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel ahead of the 2025 mega auction. The Gujarat Titans seized that chance and bought him for INR 15.75 Crores. Without Buttler, the batting department of RR struggled, depending heavily on Yashasvi Jaiswal. The likes of Jurel, Parag, Hetmyer, and Nitish Rana fell short. Meanwhile, Buttler proved himself with the Titans, becoming one of their key players in IPL 2025.
