Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming admitted that the team’s plight was understandable after a loss to Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, which ensured their staying at the very bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. They have only secured three victories from 13 matches, thus making their season a very inconsistent one and finishing low even before the last game.
CSK saw more or less a good start, but in the game against RR at Delhi, they did not stand up to the relentless bowling on display by their opponents. Shivam Dube scored 39 and MS Dhoni scored 16, but the team fell apart toward the end, managing just 17 runs in the last three overs and finishing at 187/8.
Talking about the situation that the team is in, Fleming said, “No, we obviously don’t like being down there in the points table. We wanted a good performance. We’re trying to put some consistent performances together… It’s fitting that we’re at the bottom. We’ve played that type of cricket, so you can’t hide from it.”
He pointed out the issues that the team has with its batting: it tends to just patch up the innings instead of constructing good ones. “Our lower order isn’t right at this stage… A lot of the batting positions rely on how well a start we get… We’ve been patching up innings rather than constructing proper ones,” said Fleming.

Looking ahead to IPL 2025, he mentioned the need for changes, stating, “We’ve got strong ideas for next year, so all aspects are covered.” With their playoff chances gone and a disappointing season behind them, CSK’s last match is a chance to regain some pride before they regroup for a stronger comeback next season
