Hardik Pandya led his troops to a massive victory over the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday (May 1) at the home ground in Jaipur. This is the first Mumbai captain to conquer the RR there since Harbhajan Singh in 2012. Pandya helped the team win by 100 runs with the help of some great batting from the top four, with some good bowling show from Trent Boult and Karn Sharma.
Pandya himself scored a quick-fire 48 runs off 23 balls, leading the charge to a total of 217 for MI. RR struggled to keep pace, limping to a mere 117 in 16.1 overs. Post-match, Hardik commented, “We are keeping it simple, and it’s working for us. We want to stay humble and disciplined. ” He said that runs could have been added further but emphasized the value of playing smartly noting, “It’s about understanding the situation and playing accordingly.”
On the other side is RR captain Riyan Parag, who lauded MI for their command in the game, saying they batted well and accelerated whenever required. This win was MI’s sixth in a row and pushed them to the top of the points table, even though they had the beginnings of a slightly tough season. Looking quite good for qualification to the playoffs, they might end up finishing very well indeed.
