Former Indian cricketer Joginder Sharma, who helped India win the 2007 T20 World Cup, thinks it’s time for MS Dhoni to take a break. Chennai Super Kings, a team that’s won five titles and made the playoffs 12 times, had a tough season and didn’t make it past the group stage. After their main captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, got ruled out, Dhoni stepped up to lead the team through a difficult time.
There’s been a lot of talk about what Dhoni’s future looks like after they failed to make the playoffs this season. Rumors about his retirement started when his family visited for a game against Delhi Capitals, and Dhoni’s decision to bat lower in the order only added to the speculation. Even CSK’s coach, Stephen Fleming, mentioned that Dhoni can’t play at full intensity for too long anymore.
Joginder, who remembers Dhoni’s game-changing performances, feels it might be best for him to step away from the league after 18 years. He said, “Considering Mahi’s fitness level, he should play to show his fitness, but it’s time for him to rest.”
Dhoni shared some thoughts on his retirement plans after his performance helped Chennai beat Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this month. He said that after the IPL, he needs to see if he can handle the physical pressure in the next six to eight months. “Nothing to decide now, but the love and support I’ve received is amazing,” he noted after that match.

Despite the challenges, Dhoni set several records this season, like playing in his 400th T20 match and being the oldest Player of the Match. He led CSK to victory without missing a game and helped the team secure their fifth IPL title. Just a few months later, he had knee surgery to fix an issue he had throughout the season.
