Prithvi Shaw is now one of the icon players for the third edition of the T20 Mumbai League set to take place from 26th May to 8th June. Along with Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are featured in this roster. He went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction. Other participants among several stars include Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, and Sarfaraz Khan.
His career has experienced some ups and downs lately. He was released just before the auction by Delhi Capitals and did not find any new offers for the season. Ruturaj Gaikwad was replaced by Ayush Mhatre for Chennai Super Kings, with many considering Shaw a good suitor for that role. Last season, he scored 197 runs in 9 matches for Mumbai, the winner of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Meanwhile, Suryakumar, Shreyas and Rahane have been in the hunt during the IPL since Shaw has been out of the picture. Shreyas has been leading the Punjab Kings and has scored 288 runs in 9 matches, while Rahane has been a key player for KKR, racking up 271 runs from 9 matches.
Ajinkya Naik, President of MCA, expressed excitement about the eight icon players, noting how they represent the spirit and legacy of Mumbai cricket. He believes their involvement will inspire younger players and enhance the league’s experience for fans.
This time, the T20 Mumbai League is back after a six-year gap, Rohit Sharma being the ambassador of the tournament. The auction for the new season will be held shortly, allowing the eight teams to sign one player each as their icon.
