Rohit Sharma, captain of my India team and a star player for the Mumbai Indians, shared about a special moment he recently had with his parents after discovering that a stand in Wankhede Stadium was to be named after him. I told them that they needed to sit in the stand when it was inaugurated, he told journalist Vimal Kumars.
‘Rohit Sharma Stand’: Mumbai Cricket Association renamed Divecha Pavilion Level 3 as tribute for the top Indian cricket captain for and favourite local hero. For Rohit, it is much more than just his career, it is something more deep and emotional. He said, I told them that when the stand with my name is inaugurated, they have to come and sit in it.
He added comically, “And they also don’t generally come and see my matches, they prefer seeing it from home, as they get too anxious in the huge sea of faces.” However, he did manage to encourage them to attend some important games including his first match as Wankhede they played captain in 2017.

While talking about the honor, Rohit said, When people refer to me as the King of Mumbai, I definitely love that .It is their affection and I value it very highly. I did not believe it would reach a point that, from somewhere I had started, people would say this about me. Emotional-it really matters to me, having a stand in my name in Wankhede.
He remembers the days when he struggled with entry into the stadium.
“Twenty years ago, we could never get into this place. And now I have a stand named after me-that is huge. Wankhede has grown me. I’ve practiced there, struggled, even been scolded. That is a very special place.”
Rohit praised fans of Mumbai cricket, who he said were both very passionate and fair.
“They even cheer for players like Warner or Smith. That’s the legacy of Mumbai cricket-they love good cricket.”
After just 56 runs in his first six innings, Rohit has returned with 26, 76*, 70, and 12, exhibiting the trademark powerplay aggression famous at MI.
